Cymbalta activating or sedating
Effexor [XR] increases serotonin more than anything else esp.
I have tried Wellbutrin, Zybriid, Lexapro & Prozac. The net effect of Cymbalta is that it tends to be more on the activating and stimulating side.
Ssri type antidepressants which are the most specific for the commonest biochemical defect in depression, low serotonin, are least likely amongst antidepressants to cause sedation, other than wellbutrin (bupropion) which rarely has sedative properties.
All antidepressants have risk of induction or provocation of seizures--especially wellbutrin (bupropion) and tetracylic antidepressants.
Sedation/hypnotic (unlabeled use): 25-50 mg at bedtime (often inusers of two commonly used antidepressants, fluoxetine and venlafaxine, as reported on a suggest they can produce sedation , “activation” effects,.evaluated what he called “activation” in patients taking fluoxetine or placebo in ..
parison to three more sedating antidepressants – doxepin, imipramine, and Jun 13, 2012 Some TCAs are more activating and have been used to treat a subset arousals during sleep.
Cymbalta has helped me tremendously with no side effects. Cymbalta's increase in norepinephrine is much stronger and not dose-dependent like Effexor [XR].
Each type (class) of antidepressant affects these neurotransmitters in slightly different ways.Higher doses of Effexor [XR] is not getting more of the same, it's like adding a new drug, such as Paxil with Wellbturin or Strattera added to it, that's the interesting part... What does norepinephrine do and what's the advantages of that vs serotonin?in contrast taking more and more of a drug such as Xanax will get you more of the same effect and stronger, but that's not the case with Effexor [XR]. I've taken Effexor xr in the past but only at 75mg for anxiety / panic attacks.Although antidepressants may not cure depression, they can reduce your symptoms. But if it doesn't relieve your symptoms, or it causes side effects that bother you, you may need to try another. There are a number of antidepressants available that work in slightly different ways and have different side effects.
